Last August, the WAVE team held a fitness competition. The Prize: The Winner gets to pick a trip, and the top 5 get to go on that trip. TBone triumphed over all, and picked an Alaskan Bike Tour as his prize. So for one week of July ’08, Alaska was invaded by the fittest members of WAVE. This is their story:

Thompson Pass

The screech of tires,
The clash of steel,
“Oh damn it!”
Ward’s blood starts running as the skin starts to peel.
Craig stops for support, “Is the bike alright?”
The scene doesn’t phase him,
It’s a familiar sight.

Ward throttles back,
conserving energy for the long climb that looms.
Craig’s stomach starts growling,
Cheetos and Brownies ahead, zoom, zoom, zoom.

Now, aggravation is building with increasing elevation,
Luong shouts to Dave in frustration.
“Throw me a bone. There’s no more hills, right?”
Dave turns the corner, and laughs at the sight.
For there is a beast of a hill disappearing into a fog.
Luong quickly switches gears to the granny cog.

Finally, the hill crest.
And, Who’s that? Bing!!
Rested and not sweating?
He mounts his iron horse and out through the mist,
Shoots the downhill specialist.

Hard pedaling  subsides,
as the downhill wind dries our hides.
Now, with gravity in our favor,
We all enjoyed Alaskan views which we will forever savor.
